Janet and I have been married over 31 years. Like most couples, we’ve had a few rough spots along the way, but for the most part we’ve had a good/great marriage (ie – it’s good at times great at others). These latter years it’s been getting better and better.
One thing that helped us early on was attending a variety of marriage enrichment conferences and listening to various speakers on topics related to marriage.
We have tried to make right decisions and submit our marriage to the Lord; putting Him first in all we do. We’ve been blessed with a wonderful relationship and great kids. To this point, all our kids love and serve God actively in our church, communities and through various missions we are involved in around the world.
So when I say our marriage has been good/great – I mean it. Janet and I are great friends who love Christ and complement each other well. And while our marriage is good/great we are always looking for ways to make it better.
Recently our Home Team (Small Group) has gone through most of the Love & Respect Video material by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. It’s been nothing short of awesome. Emerson is funny, practical and reveals some much needed truth for couples. This material has improved our marriage once again. We have learned some simple tips for improving our communication and helping solve situations when we get in a crazy cycle or fight.
I shared the Leadership Material about Love and Respect with our staff yesterday. The room was filled with many emotions as we heard incredible truth from Dr. Eggerichs. For me personally, my heart breaks over the fact that so many couples are struggling today – even in our own church.
Therefore, I’m more than pumped that we are hosting the Love & Respect Video Conference on Feb. 27-28 this year at Grace Fellowship. I’ve challenged our staff and leaders to pray for this conference every day, and if you’re reading this blog – I encourage you to do the same.
I believe we will see God do some miraclous things on Feb. 27-28 in the marriages of people in our church and community.
MEN – most of you are busy and are not really interested in a “marriage conference.” Honestly, I feel the same way. However, this material has been so helpful – so practical – so real in helping me and Janet that I have to implore you to take a risk and come. Emerson does the best job I’ve ever heard explaining to women our need for RESPECT. He also helps us understand our wives incredible need for LOVE. I believe this conference could be one of the best investments you make this year!
