“You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” John 18:37 NIV
37 Pilate replied, “You are a king then?” “You say that I am a king, and you are right,” Jesus said. “I was born for that purpose. And I came to bring truth to the world. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” John 18:37 NLT
As you consider all the things you’ll hear today – all the things you’ll read – all the things you’ll watch —— filter them through what Jesus said in this passage.
What are some of the implications of this verse? If Jesus came to bring truth to this world, there must be things that are not true (lies). If everyone who listens to His voice is on the “side” of truth – there must be another side (the side of untruth).
The Bible is clear that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light and those who follow him make themselves to look like servants of the truth when in reality they perpetrate lies – even some who are in ministry. (2 Cor. 11:13-15)
So how do I discern the truth that Jesus came to bring? Psalm 119:160 makes it clear that the sum (total) of God’s Word is eternally true. As you watch, hear and read a variety of things this week – filter them through the truth of God’s Word – not through a culture that has listened to lies for so long that it has exchanged the truth of God for a lie. Filter the things that come your way through the things Jesus said and did because “everyone on the side of truth” listens to Him.
