Safe ?

We like to play it safe.  We like to have a safe routine.  As kids, we like the feeling of being safe on base.  We like to tell each other to “be safe”.    We like safe places.  We like safe relationships.  We even like to pray safe prayers.

I understand the necessity of safety at work and being wise in our actions.  I’m not suggesting we do something stupid, but I wonder if it’s not a little stupid to play it safe all the time?  I wonder if I like to play it safe more than I want to admit?  I wonder if “safe” is the type life God wants us to live?   I wonder if we’ll hear “well done” when we get to heaven, if we play it safe all the time?

Jesus said:   37 If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.  38 If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.  39 If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give it up for me, you will find it.    Matt 10:37-39 NLT

I wonder if what He said and did had anything to do with playing it safe?    Just a thought.
