I’m reading a new book by Jim Demint called Saving Freedom. I’m about 1/2 way through it, and thus far it’s been very interesting, informative and alarming. Whether you’re conservative or liberal, young or old, male or female – I’d encourage you to read this book.
Those of you who know me, know I’m pretty upbeat and positive most of the time. I don’t have a pessimistic outlook on life because I know that God is in control and will see us through the future. However, that doesn’t mean the future will always be easy or bright. We have no promise of God’s blessing in our country. Blessing comes from obedience, and it’s very clear that we’re moving further and further away from following the principles and commands of Scripture.
I don’t believe politics will solve our Nation’s problems; the only thing that can save America is Jesus Christ and the principle found in 2 Chron. 7:14. However, I do believe Christians need to be vitally involved and informed when it comes to the future of our nation. This means we must be involved in our government and therefore in politics. While my purpose and passion are based on Matthew 28:19-20, Matthew 22:36-40 and John 10:10, I believe I must become more informed and involved when it comes to the political structure of our country. I also believe it’s time for us to call on our leaders to make the sacrifices necessary now to preserve any hope of a quality life for our children and their children. As Senator Demint states on page 90: “….no reasonably informed, thinking American could believe unrestrained government spending would be good for our country.”
Whether you agree with Senator Demint’s views or not, this would be a good read; it will challenge you to think and consider issues that will affect the freedoms many of us hold dear.
