7 years ago today (August 3) – a hero passed away; my dad. (This is being posted a day late because our internet was down)
He was one of the finest men I’ve ever known and he taught me so much. One of the best things I ever did was give him a book called “A Father’s Legacy”.
It’s a book filled with questions that allows your father to share his life story with you. I would encourage you to get something like this! If you can’t find the book itself then ask your dad/mom to share insights about their life; their family – how they met – their childhood memories – life lessons – etc etc. There’s one for mothers too that I’ve given my mom – so get both! I’m so thankful that before daddy died he took the time to fill it out entirely. It is one of those treasured items I would grab if my house were on fire.
Here’s one of the great things he shared with me from his life in “My Father’s Legacy” ….. Recall for me five of the most important lessons you have learned in life.
Here’s what my father wrote: 1. Trust in the Lord – He will take care of you. 2. Always be truthful and honest. 3. Be a good listener. 4. Be a good friend and you will have good friends. 5. Don’t put things off – do them when they need to be done – do not wait until you feel like it.
Great wisdom from a great man who was one of my heroes. I hope I can live up to the standards he lived by and apply these lessons in my own life.
I loved this! All father’s should try to leave such a legacy. Thanks for sharing.
