Naked and Barefoot

The older I get the more I’m amazed at how people still try to put God in their box.  For example if I told you about a preacher that went naked and barefoot  – not in his house – not streaking in college – not just for a few minutes – but for 3 years in his community – because God told him too – what would you say/think/believe?   For some – that idea just doesn’t fit in their box – I mean, God would never do something that crazy….but in my time alone in God’s Word this past week I was reading Isaiah 20….and verses 1-3 state:  In the year when King Sargon of Assyria sent his commander in chief to capture the Philistine city of Ashdod, 2 the Lord told Isaiah son of Amoz, “Take off the burlap you have been wearing, and remove your sandals.” Isaiah did as he was told and walked around naked and barefoot.  3 Then the Lord said, “My servant Isaiah has been walking around naked and barefoot for the last three years. This is a sign—a symbol of the terrible troubles I will bring upon Egypt and Ethiopia.   Yes, God had a specific purpose in having Isaiah go barefoot and naked for three years, but many people who are followers of Christ don’t think of God that way – they think He would never do something like that  (it just doesn’t fit in the box they’ve created for Him – it doesn’t fit into the system of beliefs they’ve developed).

Now, I hope God never chooses to do that again – at least not in my lifetime, but the point is God is soverign – will accomplish His purpose in any way He desires – and will never fit into our box.
