You Can’t Handle The Truth

That’s a pretty famous line from A Few Good Men. it’s actually pretty accurate, because many of us can’t handle the truth!

I was reading in Luke 4 this morning and verses 16-29 are a great commentary on this in Jesus’ day.

As Jesus spoke in the synagogue, the people were amazed by his teaching and loved it; (22) they even spoke well of him. As Jesus continued to teach the truth, he stepped on a few toes and the climate of the crowd/community changed quickly. The crowd that initially spoke well of him was now filled with rage (28) – so much so that they tried to kill Him (29).

It’s interesting that this was the religious crowd. Things haven’t changed much with human nature. What was true among some religious people in the first century is still true today.
