Hatred Insults & Scorn

Reading in Luke 6 today. Man, I think I could camp out in this chapter for months!

Numerous verses caught my attention, but a couple made me really think about my motives and passion.

In Luke 6:22-23 Jesus said to be happy when people hate you, ostracize you, insult you, and scorn your name as evil……because of Him! This is the key – if people do this because you are following Jesus – then you’re blessed!

In Luke 6:26 Jesus said to be very cautious – you better do a heart check – when ALL men speak well of you! It’s a sign that you’re not really following Jesus! If you’re not rustling some feathers (especially among the religious crowd) you’re probably not doing a very good job of following Christ!

Most leaders want to be liked. Most pastors like hearing they’ve done a good job. Nothing wrong with this, but I have to be careful that I’m not deceived by the enemy into desiring the praise of men over obedience to Jesus!

I was very insecure before I made the decision to follow Christ as Lord & Savior AND began to understand my position in Christ. In fact, many of the things I did before I was a follower of Jesus were to try and gain acceptance, and some of the things I did as a new follower of Christ were out of my insecurity. Don’t get me wrong, it still bothers me a little when people tell lies about me or scorn my name, but that comes with the territory and I’ve learned that my security isn’t in what they say or think – it’s in what Christ says about me. Therefore, I focus on my position in Christ and when people say evil about me (b/c I’m following Him) I just thank Him for the privilege of serving Him & try to remember to pray for these people.

If you are going to follow Jesus, you’re going to experience some hatred, insults and scorn. Don’t listen to it and don’t allow the enemy to decieve you into believing it! Instead, stand firm in your position in Christ and what He says about you and you’ll continue to be scorned by people, but blessed by God.

Want to know more about your POSITION IN CHRIST as a believer. I’ll post something on that tomorrow.
