Have you ever been in the middle of a time alone with God and felt that Jesus was a million miles away? Ever felt that way during the week, or even when you’ve been involved in worship?
A dry season doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve done anything wrong. This may be a time of testing or of refining your faith. Remember, God tests & refines us, but never tempts us.
However, one of the questions we should be asking when we don’t sense the presence and power of God in our life is: “Have I been living a life of loving obedience to God?”
In John 14:21 Jesus told His followers: “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
As we respond to Christ in loving obedience, He promises to disclose (make Himself known) to us. I believe He will disclose more of His power, purpose & promises when we choose to obey Him out of love. Therefore, if you’re feeling like there’s distance between you and God maybe there’s an area where you’ve quit following and started doing your own thing.
The solution is simple; REPENT. In other words, change your mind and your direction. Go back to that place where you were disobedient, and choose be obedient to what God told you to do. Here are a couple of simple examples…..
If God told you to go to someone and apologize or ask for forgiveness, but you failed to do so – then stop what you’re doing and set the wheels in motion to GO DO IT. Don’t worry about the other person’s response; you be obedient.
Even though our sin isn’t private in consequences, it can be private in nature – something only you & God know about. If it’s private in nature then confess & turn from it (take a spiritual bath – let God cleanse you – see 1 John 1:9). As Jesus said in an encounter with a woman whose sin wasn’t private ( she was caught in the act of adultery) – Go your way and sin no more!
Jesus wants to disclose Himself to us continually – if you don’t sense you’re close to Him, who moved?
