Jesus Calling

Our dear friends Chuck and Lissa Russell gave us a copy of Jesus Calling several years ago and we have thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a small devotional book which encourages us to consider and enter the presence of God every day by thinking through what Jesus is saying to us. It’s based on various scripture each day, but the way Sarah Young writes is amazing. Janet and I have given the book to many people because it’s a great addition to the time we spend in God’s Word each day.

Today’s reading was another reminder to me of how much I enjoy this simple devotional book. I haven’t read it in a while, but Janet had it sitting on the table by her Bible and as I ate my oatmeal this morning, I picked it up and read the devo for today (Feb. 7).

The very first sentence grabbed me: COME TO ME FOR REST AND REFRESHMENT. In the midst of my weariness, it was a reminder to come to Him and invite Him to take charge of my life & to live in His presence throughout the day (which goes against the grain of culture).

One of the key verses to remember in the devo was Psalm 42:11. Today, in spite of any of the issues that tire me out, frustrate me or play havoc with my emotions & energy I WILL PUT MY HOPE IN GOD.
