I believe a true DISCIPLE of Jesus Christ is one who has a Life Objective / Purpose based on the Word of God. I think it was Rick Warren who quipped: if it’s not caught on video, it didn’t happen. In the same way – until it’s written out – it’s not a legitimate Life Objective.
As a follower/disciple of Jesus Christ – your Life Objective or Purpose statement has nothing to do with your vocation and everything to do with your vocation. In other words, your Life Objective is your purpose regardless of your vocation, and impacts all you do while in that vocation.
I first learned of the necessity of a life objective from a man named Dave Medders in 1976. My Life Objective is based on the Word of God. I wrote it out & adopted it in 1976. It’s been my purpose since that time regardless of my vocation or location.
My personal Life Objective is: To know, to love and to glorify God, and to be used of Him to raise up qualified laborers in significant numbers as fast as possible to help fulfill the Great Commission.
If you call yourself a DISCIPLE; what’s your Life Objective/Purpose. Have you written it out? Can you share it word for word with someone at any given time?
