In a few hours I get to perform the wedding ceremony for my oldest son Jeremy and his bride Whitney. I’ve had this privilege to be a part of each of my children’s weddings, and like them – this one is special.
Janet and I have been praying consistently for over 34 years for Jeremy to find a godly wife, unless God wanted him to remain single. That prayer has been answered.
This is a joyous day because we are so excited about the commitment Jeremy and Whitney have to Christ and to making their home a Christ-centered home.
3 John 4 has been a verse Janet and I have claimed and prayed for our kids all their lives; it says – I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are living by the truth. 3 John 4 NIrV
We have no greater joy than to know this because it means they are leap years ahead of most people who are joined in the covenant of marriage. To walk in truth means to live out the words of Jesus which requires an ongoing connection to Him.
I’m glad that’s the desire of Jeremy & Whitney. Sure, they’ll have struggles and make mistakes; they’ve both been independent a long time and marriage is a journey, but because they’re striving to put Christ first they will be able to work through the crazy cycles of marriage and find the right balance in their relationship.
Our prayer continues to be that they keep Christ in the center of their lives and marriage because that’s where they’ll experience the greatest “fruits” of love in their relationship. As Jesus said in John 15:5 NIrV – “I am the vine. You are the branches. If anyone remains joined to me, and I to him, he will bear a lot of fruit. You can’t do anything without me.” And the fruit Jesus’ Spirit produces is: “… love, joy and peace. It is being patient, kind and good. It is being faithful and gentle and having control of oneself.” Gal. 5:22-23
