Most of us have those moments in time when we’re awestruck; when we’re filled with or inspired by wonder, amazement, beauty or majesty.
Some of us are in awe of certain people. Some of us experience awe at the birth of a child. Some, like me, are filled with awe at the beauty & majesty of creation. But are you ever filled with awe toward the Creator?
In Psalm 5:7 David writes: “Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe.”
For me, because of the unfailing love of Jesus Christ, I’ve been invited into God’s presence. I can do this daily as I have my time alone with God, and I can experience DEEP AWE when I gather with others who make up His Church. When I slow down long enough to reflect and consider, I’m in awe of the grace of God displayed by Jesus Christ when He died for a vile and sinful man named BJ Rutledge.
When we gather as a church, there are times I’m overwhelmed with awe as I hear someone’s story — it can happen when I hear truth from God’s Word — and sometimes I feel like God’s love & grace are washing over me as we sing.
This happens most when I’m focused – participating – and open to the attitudes or actions God wants me to deal with in my life. When I’m distracted, I rarely experience awe.
So as we gather at our churches this week, let’s do our best focus, participate & respond because God’s unfailing love makes it possible to worship with deepest wonder & awe.
