OBEDIENCE

Incredible acts of God often begin with initial steps of obedience on our part.

As I’m reading Matthew 1 this morning, I’m reminded of the simple, yet significant, step of obedience Joseph took to accomplish what God wanted him to do prior to Jesus’ birth at the 1st Christmas.  Mary took a similar step of obedience that was specific and significant for her too.

Both of them had many questions and pondered their situations.  Neither of them understood completely.  Both of them knew obedience to God’s desire would cost them with their family, friends and community.  Yet, they responded with complete obedience.

The verse that really caught my attention this morning was Mt. 1:24:  And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife.   Joseph DID as the Lord commanded, and submitted to God to participate in one of the greatest miracles of history.
