In a message called #NOFILTER on May 3rd, we talked about the power of words; spoken and posted.
Whether you’re a follower of Christ or not, you need to consider what you say/post because there’s great power in words. If you’re a follower of Christ, God holds us to a higher standard and we need to TWEAK it before we Speak It (or post it).
PROVERBS 18:21 Msg says: Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.
“…the tongue is a small thing, but what enormous damage it can do. A great forest can be set on fire by one tiny spark. JAMES 3:5 TLB
And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is full of wickedness, and poisons every part of the body. And the tongue is set on fire by hell itself and can turn our whole lives into a blazing flame of destruction and disaster.” JAMES 3:6 TLB
PROVERBS 16:23a (GNB) Intelligent people think before they speak;
THINK before you speak; ask yourself things like…
Is it Truthful (and full of grace? Jesus was full of both)
Is it Helpful (things can be true, but not helpful)
Is it Inspiring (does it promote healing or unrest?)
Is it Necessary (or will it add to confusion?)
It is Kind (is it something you’d want said about you?)
Jesus said: I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, MATTHEW 12:36 ESV
Change the rhetoric; TWEAK It Before You Speak It.
B.J. Great message this week as always. Particularly poignant for me, as I am the Vice-President of Operations for a large company. By the end of the day my tongue is almost bitten in half attempting to “tweak it before I speak it.” The Motivational speaker, who years ago admonished, “There is no stupid question.” Did not have 65 employees reporting to him!…..Thanks for the reminder to count to ten before spouting off!….Charles B.
