TWEAK It Before You Speak It (or Post It) – Pt 4 – AVOID

In a message called #NOFILTER on May 3rd, we talked about the power of words; spoken and posted.

Whether you’re a follower of Christ or not, you need to consider what you say/post because there’s great power in words. If you’re a follower of Christ, God holds us to a higher standard and we need to TWEAK it before we Speak It (or post it).

PROVERBS 18:21 Msg  says:  Words kill, words give life;  they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

Before we SPEAK IT or POST IT, we need to TWEAK it by:  AVOIDING the desire to say too much.

Don’t talk too much, for it fosters sin. Be sensible and turn off the flow! PROVERBS 10:19 (NLT)

Maybe the reason Solomon devoted so many Proverbs to the way we communicate was because he knew the trouble people cause when they talk to much.  I can recall a number of times in my own life where I would have handled a situation much better if I’d listened more and talked less.

I like this saying even though I’m not sure where it originated:    A wise old owl sat in an oak – The more he saw the less he spoke – The less he spoke the more he heard – so let’s try to be more like that bird.

PROVERBS 21:23 Msg says: Watch your words and hold your tongue;  you’ll save yourself a lot of grief.

TWEAK it before you speak it.  Learn to hold your tongue, and Avoid saying too much.
