When I spend time alone with God and read the Bible, I ask myself these questions because they help me understand and apply Scripture to my life. As Andy Stanley said years ago: “To understand why, submit and apply.” I don’t try to find an answer for all of them; I’m just looking for one thing God wants me to understand and apply in my life from the passage I read.
Here are questions I suggest you ask when you’re reading the Bible:
E – is there an EXAMPLE for me to follow?
N – is there a NEW THOUGHT about God?
S – is there a SIN for me to confess?
P – is there a PROMISE for me to claim?
E – is there an ERROR for me to avoid?
C – is there a COMMAND for me to obey?
