EAGER EXAMINATION (BIG – Day 17 – Acts 17)

Can you believe we’re already in Day 17 of our BIG Challenge as we’re reading the Book of Acts together in 28 Days.  I hope you’re having conversations with your family and friends about what you’re reading and discovering!

Acts 17:11-12 states:  Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Many of the Jews believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.

I love the attitude of the Bereans!  First they received the message (Paul’s teaching & preaching) with GREAT EAGERNESS.    What a difference it would make in our lives, churches and communities if all of us who attend church and/or a small group would come with this kind of EAGER EXPECTATION!

Secondly, they were wise enough to know that they needed to EXAMINE the Scriptures for themselves.  They went to the Scripture to see if the things Paul taught lined up with the Scripture.   This is so important!   You need to examine every teaching by what the Scripture says.  In order to do that,  you need to be involved in consistent study and reading of the Scripture!

Third; it’s cool to see their response to having an EAGER anticipation toward the Word of God and a willingness to EXAMINE the teaching.   As they did this honestly – many of them discovered that what Paul taught was true and they chose to believe (put their faith & trust) in Jesus!
