In my time alone with God this morning, I reflected on the Senior Pastors I’ve served with and the significant impact they’ve had in my life. My reflection began as I read 1 Timothy 3 this morning which starts with this verse: Here is a trustworthy saying:Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. 1 Timothy 3:1 NIV
I took some time to pray and thank God for them, and prayed for those still serving in ministry in some capacity. The following list includes the Pastor and where we served together. I am grateful for Bill Darnell (First Baptist Weatherford), Bob Norman (Northway Baptist Dallas), Fred Lowery (First Baptist Bossier City, LA), Damon Shook (Champion Forest Baptist Houston), Kerry Shook (Fell0wship of the Woodlands – now Woodlands Church The Woodlands).
Each of these leaders allowed God to use them in significant ways as they submitted their strengths and weaknesses to Him. I’m grateful they believed in me and took a chance on me. I learned some valuable lessons from each of them and reflected on the key lessons God taught me that were consistent in their lives and leadership. Here are 7 key lessons that came to mind this morning:
a) an unwavering commitment to the Word of God & prayer
b) a love for their spouse
c) a love for God, people and the local church
d) a desire to do whatever it takes to reach people for Jesus Christ
e) a strong work ethic
f) a commitment to excellence and creativity
g) a big faith
