In a message called #NOFILTER on May 3rd, we talked about the power of words; spoken and posted.
Whether you’re a follower of Christ or not, you need to consider what you say/post because there’s great power in words. If you’re a follower of Christ, God holds us to a higher standard and we need to TWEAK it before we Speak It (or post it).
PROVERBS 18:21 Msg says: Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.
Before we SPEAK IT or POST IT, we need to TWEAK it by asking: Is It WHOLESOME?
If it’s wholesome, it will be pure, good, healthy for you and the people around you.
EPHESIANS 4:29 (NIV) says: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths…”
Unwholesome talk (or posts) include things like gossip, slander, lies, divisive speech and some criticisms. If we’re a follower of Christ, these should be as repulsive to us as eating spoiled or rotten food because they violate the law of love found in Matthew 22:36-40.
Remember that Jesus said: I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, MATTHEW 12:36 ESV
Proverbs 6:12-19 is clear that God despises it when someone spreads strife, or aids in spreading strife and conflict. Be cautious of anyone who uses their platform to create conflict and distrust.
PROVERBS 16:28 NASB says: A perverse man spreads strife, And a slanderer separates intimate friends.
TWEAK It Before You Speak It. Ask: “Is it wholesome?”
Jesus said: I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, MATTHEW 12:36 ESV
Change the rhetoric; TWEAK It Before You Speak It.
